Hey guys, long time lurker first time poster. This forum has helped me solve many minor problems with my 02 impala LS and has saved me a lot of money. Hopefully someone can come through with some great answers again. Posted this here as well as in mechanical/electrical problems, I need to get to the bottom of this ASAP.

My problem is that I recently bought a pair of the Halo, LED aftermarket headlights for my 02 impala. Everything went well with installation other than the fact that all my turn signals (left and right, front and back) blink extremely fast when I turn them on. The hazard lights work and blink normally. However, to troubleshoot the problem I replaced my taillight bulbs in case they coincidentally were about to go out the same day I put my new headlights in, then I replaced one side with my OEM Headlight and that side returned back to normal so I'm a little puzzled.

I've seen a lot of posts saying I need to replace my Hazard switch/flasher which is integrated together I believe, but I don't think that is the problem due to my original headlights functioning fine. Do I need to buy a heavy duty flasher like for trailers in order for my turn signals to return to working order?

I wired my Halo's and LED's into the lowbeam wires and never touched the turn signals. Is there too much load? I didn't think LED's draw much power so I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it. Any thoughts or solutions would be much appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Shawn

do the turn signals have led lites in them or regular bulbs?

I had the exact same problem it's because your front turn signals are now LEDs if you go down to any autoparts store then can get you the correct flasher and it'll fix your problem

No, because the flasher is integrated into the hazard switch. You need to wire resistors inline with the turn signals to balance the load back out.

Hey guys,

Thanks for the responses. My turn signals are still regular bulbs, but there is 3 LED's beside the turn signal housing. Do I need to wire the resistors in line with the LED's or the turn signal? I'm a little confused. And if I have to wire into the LEDs can I wire one resistor in for all 3 because they've been spliced together or do I need to wire a resistor for each seperate LED light.

Thanks!

and if you know how many Ohms should the resistors be rated for?

if the led's are flashing you having an overload on them and causing them to spike eradically .... just slap a 3 ohm resistor and done deal ... autozone sells some for like 10 bucks a pair but they are crap ( had them ) i bought mine fro ebay for about 6 bucks a pair of 6ohm .. plug from blinker power to ground and done !!!

The reason this is happening is because your car is expecting to see the electrical resistance of just your stock turn signal bulbs. When you spliced in the LEDs, it was most certainly done in parallel, you decreased the overall resistance of the circuit, which simulates a burned out bulb. So that is why you need the resistor. Add the resistor at the spot you tapped in to for the LEDs so it will bring up the resistance there, but not the resistance on the turn signal wire, which could dim your turn signal to an unsafe level.

C.E. Divine,

I received my 2 resistors yesterday and spliced into the positive and negative of JUST my LED lights. Nothing changed. Did I do this wrong? Am I supposed to splice into my positive lowbeam wire and the ground? It started raining on me before I could try splicing into my turn signal but you say that's not a good idea?

PBnJ,

The main harness came wired up and all I had to do was plug it in, but the 2 Halos and Leds were just loose wires.

Thanks for your help! Just have to wait for the rain to subside to try this out again.

Also, the seller was contacted and was extremely willing to send me another set of headlights, no charge. This seems kind of fishy to me as they asked no questions and it seemed like they knew there might be a problem with the turn signals. I'm going to keep trying with my resistors but if the second set I headlights I receive do the same thing I'm just going to go back to my OE ones >_>\

Thanks again!

Have you fixed it yet? Are those 3 LEDs supposed to act as turns or running lights?

I have a similar set, but they came pre-wired with the halos and leds tapped into the parking lights, not the low beams. That shouldn't have anything to do with your problem though. Check the headlights over closely, the halos and leds might be tied together inside the headlight units, pre-tapped into the turn circuit? That would mean your turns are now connected to your headlights? Just a haunch... Otherwise, I would double-check to make sure the turn bulbs aren't LEDs as described above. Post results?

The Halos and LEDs are supposed to act as running lights, which they do. I even switched from wiring into my low beams with wiring into the parking lights and it still occurs. The turn/parking wires are there own individual wires and come right out the back of the bulb and are not spliced into the low beams. I have checked the lights over from top to bottom and everything looks visually fine. The bulbs are not LED's just regular filaments. They are supposed to be plug and play but even then, with no Halos and no LEDs wired in, they still hyperflash to the point where you can't even tell they are blinking from a meter away.

Hey guys,

Received my second set of these lights in the mail today and to my extreme disappointment they are still hyper flashing. I didn't wire the halos and LEDs in, just plug and play with the main harness and the problem is still there. The only thing left I can possibly see as the problem is my flasher, but my OE headlights function fine, so I have a hard time believing it's that..quite disappointed..

I wired a resistor into the turning signal wire and ground and it returned the blinker to normal speed but still not visible. However I solved the problem!

There are 3 leads coming out of the turning/park light bulb
-Flashing wire (white)
-Parking light wire (yellow)
-Ground
I was thinking about it all day at work and when I came home I cut the flashing and parking light wires and connected them to the opposite, white to yellow and yellow to white. Everything works perfectly now! Thanks for your help guys! Glad to finally put an end to that headache.

Do the headlights themselves seem to have better light output
than factory and are you running hid's? P.S. DOES IT USE THE STOCK 9005/9006 BULBS?

If anyone happens to stumble upon this thread when installing your 2000-2005 chevy impala headlights and you encounter the same issue, no halos or leds hooked up yet... just plug and play connect with the harness and all of the lights work properly except when your turn signals are on they begin to flash faster on the dash and not work properly.. its not the bulbs, the person in this thread is correct, the three wires, yellow white and black to the new halo projectors turn signal are not wired properly, i cut the white wire and the yellow and then switched them so that white was connected to yellow and yellow was connected to white... and BAM... problem solved, no bulb switch needed... simply just splice and reverse the wires. thanks a lot to this thread I have gotten them set up rather easy!

OK I've done this and when I changed the wires they worked perfect
About 2 weeks later the driver side turn signal bulb blew . Changed the bulb and all is good. A couple weeks after that and the pass side stops flashing. The rear flashes fast Like a burnt out bulb but front does not flash. I changed the bulb and no difference. The green arrow does not light up on the dash. My question is now would a bad bulb in the dash cause the front to not flash and the rear to be fast? .
I also replaced the turn signal switch when I did the new headlight.

Oh and car is 02 3400 base

ok heres the fix !! I went through the same problem !! pulled my hair out over it too !! however the problem is in factory defect !! the marker/blinker on the halo/led has a black,,yellow,, and a white wire...theres the problem white and yellow are backwards !!!! cut white and yellow wires and swap them !! that's it !! if you plug in your factory pieces you will notice the 2 filliment bulb (marker and directional ) are running opposite of the new halo/led that you have now !! swap it and all done !!

listen guys I got an 02 impala had the same problem w/ halo/led lights after pulling my hair out for 2 weeks I found the solution !! no resistors or relays..on the new lights simply cut and swap the yellow and white wires !! the manufacturer wired them wrong !!! (on the marker/ blinker ) problem solved pleas pass it on.
