Hi guys,

i will post some links about few pulls i did with 98 octane today. Sound in reality was far better than actual clip which i used Sony RX100 Mk3 to record the clip.

Hope to hear your thoughts about the sound & acceleration

Nice pulls, wish i had places to do some pulls..... what mods are you running? If you already didnt say

NVM just read you an HP tune + Overkill ASI + 80mm TB?............. your impala doesnt seem too pull any faster than mine does with all those mods. Get any track times? Or 0-100s

Wow! Nice! I think I'll get off my butt and order a Throttle body this week!

I just noticed in the video, you are in KMH. 140 KMH is roughly 87 MPH. I'm actually shocked that you get an overspeed warning at 87MPH. She sounds good for sure!

Actually, it looks like that Overspeed warning starts at 120 km/h, which is only about 75mph! Why the hell would it tell you that you're overspeed at such a low speed? Hell, I think that some roads in the US now have 80mph speed limits! :)

Is it normal for the newer Impalas to display the overspeed warning any time you go over 75mph?

Hi Ram333, sounds good considering you still have the OEM exhaust system.

I was curious about you redline and you seam to top off before 6800rpm. On my set-up, my shift points go beyond 7000rpm, where the LFX make its peak HP.

I will try to find a safe flat spot outside the city and film my cockpit under a WOT load. You will probably notice a faster acceleration and a faster climb on the RPM's (also, a deeper and louder sound).

I'm jealous about your 98 Octane, here it's either Vpower or Petro Can94

I haven't noticed the red line RPM Until you brought it up. You are right. When I had the trifecta tune; The RPM Pushed few 100s more closer to redline. It was more linear acceleration but I felt more power at high RPM.

WIth HP TUNE it's more aggressive acceleration at low speeds but it does shift slightly earlier than trifecta Tune.

I'm hoping OverKill to provide us with ported manifold during upcoming months so I can purchase it along with the Jac fab spacer.

Beside that, I Purchased Granatelli ignition coil pack & NGK spark plug. Probably will be getting them by end of the month. Will send you Feedback if there is any improvement specially at low end torque.

@ram993 - when you say you have an "HPTuners tune", what does that mean? Did you tune the vehicle yourself with HPTuners or did you simply apply the Overkill tune via the HPTuners tool? HPTuners itself isn't a "tune" - it's just a tool that allows you to tune your vehicle. I'm just wondering what kind of tune you actually have. Things like the shift point RPM are all easily adjusted within HPTuners - so you can easily increase the WOT shift point RPMs if you'd like.

I do have Hp tuners MPVI Pro which I purchased from will, OverKill. When the vehicle was stock the tune was aggressive which I liked it but when installed CAI Along with the TB; I had MAF/MAP FAULT at initial stages when I diagnosed the problem.

Thanks to WILL,He responded fast and did slight adjustment with the tune (fuel/air mixture) and the problem got resolved. The vehicle runs great but not as aggressive the first tune when the vehicle was stock.

I don't have any experience in Tuning. since it's my daily car, I'm afraid of toying with ecu might bring me more problems than GAINS.

I have the Overkill tune and hit 117MPH last night after work (shhhhhh lol). No over speed warning.

Ok, so you actually have the Overkill tune - the HPTuners MPVI Pro is just the tool that you used to apply the Overkill tune. I was just trying to understand what you had. Since you have an HPTuners device, you can, of course, change parameters yourself as well, but obviously, you need to be comfortable with that you are changing and why. If you are not comfortable, that's where Wills expertise comes into play! :)

If you'd like to increase the WOT RPM, I'm sure that Will can do that for you - if it makes sense to do so (he'll know). From what @ImpalaLFX13 says, it sounds like it may be beneficial in increase it, but let's see what Will has to say...

There is a little more involved than that one setting though... That is just the "upper limit" that it will not go over.

What you really need to check/tune are the values under Trans->Full Throttle Shift Speed Normal and Full Throttle Shift RPM Normal. In order for a WOT shift to occur, both the speed AND RPM values need to be met.

So if your 1->2 WOT shift speed is 38mph and your 1->2 WOT shift RPM is 6,700, the trans won't shft until you are doing at least 38mph and the RPM reaches 6,700. Now you also have to compensate for the time the trans takes to actually do the shift - so if you want it to shift @ 7000rpm, you might really want to set it to 6,800 or 6,900 so that the shift completes before it hits the rev limiter.

At least that is my understanding as a *novice* tuner - I didn't spend a lot of time learning and tuning the WOT values much mainly because I almost NEVER go WOT. I tuned my car for drivability over performance - so I was mainly concerned with part-throttle shifts, which don't use RPM values - just speed and pedal position.

But Will will know definitively - he's the *expert* tuner here! :)

Rami's shifts are commanded for 6900-7000rpm. I can program shift points over 7000rpm if requested, I don't do it as standard fair because I don't want the liability, that's all.

The overspeed thing can be found in the DIC on 9th gens, I have it on my G8 though I have it turned off typically, but handy for long highway drives, you can set it to whatever you want.

OK, a few things here to point out, the 9th Gen is heavier, because, well it's a bigger car (probably a foot wider, 3 feet longer)
This is probably a stretch. The dimensions are not all that different between the two, the most important is the longer wheelbase, 110.5 vs 111.7. The 9th Gen is the longer vehicle by 0.9" Width is only 0.1" difference. Beefier chassis, more rigid structure and more insulation accounts for most of the weight difference between the 8th and 9th gen.

Per Chevrolet:

2013 Impala 2LT
Width - 72.9"
Length - 200.4"
Height - 58.7"
Wheel Base - 110.5"
Front Track - 62.4"
Rear Track - 61.5
Curb Weight - 3649

2015 Impala 2LT
Width - 73"
Length - 201.3"
Height - 58.9"
Wheel Base - 111.7"
Front Track - 62.2"
Rear Track - 62"
Curb Weight - 3800

Edit: I re-checked the dimensions, this time from the Chevrolet Web Site, (slight difference in specs from Edmunds) the 9th Gen is slightly longer, everything else no change.

Hit 127 MPH this morning when I got a speed warning on the dash. Felt like she had a lot more in her but it would seem the Overkill tune may have the governor set??? Will have to check it out tonight.

Btw- open freeway and zero traffic early this morning.

I used to live in Commerce Twp. 127 MPH on any road or Freeway in that area (Metro Detroit) and you are just asking for trouble. :yikes:

The Overkill tune should NOT have a speed governor set! At least his other tunes do not (pre-9th gen). I think someone said that the 9th gens have a menu option where you can setup that warning message for a certain speed - but it doesn't actually limit your speed - just a message that comes up - and can be disabled (I think) via the menu options.
